Mullingar Marketing to launch in coming weeks

The final retailer forum for the Mullingar Marketing initiative takes place this Saturday morning at 9am in the Greville Arms Hotel.

The ‘marketing roadshow’ is open to all retailers from the town and its surrounds, and is the last opportunity for local traders to lend their support or to air any questions they have about the Mullingar Marketing initiative.

Mullingar Marketing is planning the launch of this summer’s Festival of Festivals in the coming weeks, which will bring together several summer festivals over a six- to eight-week period, in order to attract lots of visitors to the Mullingar area and to optimise tourism opportunities.

The group also has the ‘Gar’ ready to launch in the next few weeks, a unique local currency which will offer a 10 per cent discount in participating retailers.

They are also working with the council to develop a parking vouchers scheme, as well as street festivals and free parking zones in selected areas.

The Mullingar Marketing team announced last week it has a pot of up to €16,000 to be used solely to market Mullingar, its tourism and its retail. This is thanks to extensive fundraising of €8,000 which has been matched by Fáilte Ireland.

The full marketing plan will be ready to launch in the next two weeks with full details of all events.

John Humphries of the Mullingar Marketing committee says there has been great support from traders to date.

“Following a series of very successful meetings, the Mullingar Marketing team has now met with most retailers represented by streets in Mullingar to outline their plans for the coming months. The retailers who attended the meeting have all expressed their interest in being involved and in the union we are trying to achieve.

“The reaction has been fantastic, and all the traders are behind us.”

John is encouraging all business people, particularly those who missed previous forums, to come along to the final retailer forum on Saturday morning and to “be a part of something great for the town”.

The new Mullingar website, mullingar.ie, is also due to be launched in the coming months.
