A pair of brothers who allegedly threw a rock through the front windscreen of a bus on the M6 motorway had bench warrants issued for both of them in the District Court this week (March 14 ) after they failed to appear.
The court heard from Garda Michael Treacy how gardaí had been called by the bus driver at around 5.35pm on February 15, and a little while later found two men walking on the motorway between Moate and Kilbeggan.
Gardaí arrested Gary Regan-Farrell (27 ), and his brother Michael Regan (20 ), both with an address at Montpelier Gardens, Infirmary Road, Dublin 8, and both were taken to Tullamore Garda Station where they were charged and released.
Garda Treacy told how a “fist-sized rock” was thrown at the privately hired bus with 41 passengers aboard from the opposite carriageway, and that it was recovered.
“Possible endangerment charges are likely to follow,” said Garda Treacy in evidence.
“The bus driver maintained control?” asked Judge Seamus Hughes.
“Yes, judge,” said the garda.
“And he brought it safely to a stop?”
“Yes, judge,” confirmed Garda Treacy.
When he heard that neither brother was in court, Judge Hughes granted Inspector Nicholas Farrell’s application, and issued a bench warrant for both men.
