Holmes Emporium reaches out to local producers

A novel business idea has emerged in Mullingar with the opening of Holmes Emporium on Bishopsgate Street.

Owner of Holmes Comforts, previously an antiques store, Dermot Holmes has decided to branch out and break the store up into smaller sections, offering local businesses a space to display their wares.

The newly-named Holmes Emporium now features 11 separate units, featuring speciality products from local producers and artisans. Visitors will find anything from French, Irish, and Italian home cooking and foods, cosmetics, jewellery, craftware, wood products, and furniture, and of course Holmes’ own range of antique items.

“This will encourage smaller businesses to get off the ground, and it gives people 11 different reasons to come into the store,” says Mr Holmes.

“We all support and encourage each other. Everyone is coming in to see; the place is very vibrant and colourful and the food at the front entices people in.”

The store also features a seating area where customers can enjoy a cup of Sicilian coffee or sample some of the other foods, snacks, and treats on offer.

The official opening of Holmes Emporium takes place on Thursday April 5.

“We chose this date because on Holy Thursday Holmes Comforts will be 60 years in business. So we are using the celebration as a launching pad for the new businesses,” explains Mr Holmes.

Holmes Emporium is located at Bishopsgate Street, Mullingar. For further information call (044 ) 9344564.
