Over 33,000 cups of Fairtrade coffee bought in Westmeath

Bewley’s, the largest provider of fresh coffee in Ireland and MACE the nationwide convenience, neighbourhood, and forecourt retailer have teamed up again to urge Westmeath consumers to Take a Step to support Fairtrade during Fairtrade Fortnight, which runs until Sunday March 25.

More than two million cups of Bewley’s Fairtrade coffee have been purchased in 120 MACE stores in the past year, including approximately 33,000 by people in Westmeath. By purchasing a Fairtrade coffee, Westmeath people are taking a step that will have a positive impact for Fairtrade farmers, workers, and communities in developing countries who urgently need a better deal from trade.

Alex Banahan, MACE sales director at BWG Foods (operators of the MACE brand in Ireland ) said, “Exactly one year ago we entered into an agreement with Bewleys to sell Fairtrade coffee exclusively in approximately 120 stores around the country. Our customers have endorsed this move by virtue of the fact that they have purchased more than two million cups of fairtrade coffee since this time. Fairtrade Fortnight is a positive initiative which we are proud to be connected with, in conjunction with our partners Bewley’s, and we thank our customers for their support of it also.”

MACE stores around the country - including the following in Westmeath, Ballinlack and Dublin Bridge Mullingar, will be supporting Fairtrade Fortnight 2012 and the theme Take a Step in 2012 with a specially designed coffee cup from Bewley’s, as well as special Fairtrade offers running until March 25 at participating neighbourhood and forecourt stores. Bewley’s have also created a game on Facebook in which fans can win a year’s supply of Fairtrade coffee for themselves and a friend.
