One hundred and sixty people to lose weight for charity this Lent

Some 160 people have signed up to participate in the Lenten Slimathon 2012 which aims to raise thousands of euros for local charities and initiatives in Athlone this Lent. The event is sponsored by Sheraton Fitness and Leisure Centre.

Speaking about the success of the event, organiser Aengus O’Rourke said, “We are delighted with the turnout and the enthusiasm of the participants, everybody was in great spirits and looking forward to taking part. Some 160 people are going to use the fantastic Sheraton Fitness and Leisure Centre for the next six weeks, they will receive professional guidance and instruction on how to lose weight and get fit. At the same time the participants will be looking for sponsorship to support our great charities and initiatives such as the South Westmeath Hospice, Athlone Canal Restoration Project, Rebuild Bosnia, and Sarsfield Square playground.”

“The organising committee have done a great job in making this event such a success. I would like to thank Marese Ward Shine, Dermot Brennan, Lesley Doyle, Ann Hennessy, and Kate Murphy Flynn for all their work. I would like to thank the Sheraton Fitness and Leisure Centre also for giving all of our participants free professional assessments and use of their excellent facilities. Without their support the event would not be possible,” added Aengus.

Ross O’Callaghan, manager of the Sheraton Fitness and Leisure Centre said, “We are looking forward to working with participants to help them achieve their goals for the Slimathon.”
