Famous piper Paddy Keenan comes to The Passionfruit

Paddy Keenan, the great piper and former Bothy Band member will play The Passionfuit Theatre, Athlone, on Friday February 24 at 8.30pm, with support from Eoghan Scott.

Paddy was born in Trim, Co Meath. His family were musicians and Travellers. His father and grandfather were pipers. He spent some time in London where he got into jazz and blues. In 1974 he joined forces with Matt Molloy, Dónal Lunny, Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill, and Mícheál Ó Domhnaill, to form The Bothy Band - one of the finest trad supergroups to emerge in that period. Tommy moved to America in the 1990s and now lives in New Hampshire in an old farmhouse.
