Mullingar Gospel Choir audition call

Have you always admired the joyous passion of the gospel choir? The infectious enthusiasm which has their audiences longing to jump up and join right in? Did you ever secretly harbour a wee longing to be part of it?

Well here’s your chance! You are cordially invited to attend open auditions at the Mullingar Arts Centre on Tuesday February 21 at 7.30pm, to strut your stuff and be in with a chance to join the brand-new Mullingar Gospel Choir.

For several years now, director of the Arts Centre, Seán Lynch, and musical director, Angela Lynch, have wanted to establish a gospel choir, and have decided that now is the hour!

“There’s definitely a need for this kind of choir,” said Angela Lynch, musical director of the Mullingar Arts Centre. “For several years now, we’ve wanted to launch a gospel choir capable of matching the best in the world. We felt that there was a natural affinity with the Cathedral, so we approaced Fr Pádraig McMahon, administrator at the Cathedral, requesting their support. The clergy were delighted with the idea. The Mullingar Gospel Choir is not intended to replace any of the existing church choirs around the town, but rather to offer an alternative approach,” she said.

Fr Pádraig McMahon said, “The priests of the parish are very enthusiastic about the gospel choir initiative. We give it our full backing and look forward to hearing them perform in the near future.”

“We have some of the finest talent right here in Mullingar,” Angela said, in advance of the open auditions, “and we’d like to encourage everyone to come along and give it a try. Although we will be taking the music very seriously, it will also offer people the chance to interact socially, which is always a good thing.”

Open auditions for Mullingar Gospel Choir will take place in Mullingar Arts Centre on Tuesday February 21 at 7.30pm. You must be over 18 to audition.
