Launch of Mayor’s Charity Fund this Monday

All welcome to the launch of the new charity fund in aid of the Jack & Jill Foundation, Athlone Sub Aqua Club, Midland Simon Community, and Pieta House

Senator Mary Ann O’Brien will speak at the launch of the Mayor’s Charity Fund this Monday night on behalf of the Jack & Jill Foundation.

Mary Ann and her husband Jonathan founded the Jack & Jill Foundation which provides care and support for children with severe neurological development issues, as well as offering some respite to the parents and families.

The Jack & Jill Foundation provides early intervention home respite to families with children up to the age of four, with severe neurological developmental delay and palliative conditions requiring extensive medical and nursing care at home. Home respite care is now offered to over 1,400 children and their families all over Ireland since 1997. Mary Ann also runs the confectionery business Lily O’Briens.

Mayor Alan Shaw is set to launch a new Mayor’s Charity Fund on Monday February 13 at 7pm in the Sheraton Hotel. Members of the public are invited to attend.

In all, four charities will benefit from the Mayor’s Charity Fund and these have been announced in advance of the launch. “I am very pleased with the four chosen charities and I know that the work that they do improves the lives of so many. This fund I hope, with the public’s support, will help them further in delivering services to their respective causes.”

The four beneficiaries are: Jack & Jill Foundation, Athlone Sub Aqua Club, Midland Simon Community, and Pieta House. Proceeds of the fund will be divided equally between the four charities and distributed before the council’s AGM next July.

Cllr Shaw plans to hold a series of fundraising events over the next five months, the first being the opening night proceeds of the upcoming play in Athlone Little Theatre entitled The Beauty Queen of Leenane which will be staged on Sunday February 26.
