Two-year-old Anne Murphy of Mullingar is to feature on TV3’s Ireland AM and Temple Street Children’s Hospital documentary this coming Monday December 12.
Anna was born profoundly deaf and on July 8 this year she received a cochlear implant, just two days after her second birthday. This implant is gradually bringing her out of world of complete silence. It also means mainstream schooling for Anna and full access to speech and language. Anna is already showing great progress in the five months since her implant, “She is babbling away to herself these days and it is music to our ears,” said Anna’s mum, Lorraine.
This Monday, TV3’s Ireland AM presenters will speak to Anna’s parents, Lorraine and Brendan, about their journey while the Temple Street Children’s Hospital documentary follows the journey Anna and her family take from her diagnosis, to surgery and finally to the touching day when the implants were switched on for the first time.
Lorraine and Brendan Murphy recently held a fundraising event at the Annebrook House Hotel to raise much needed funds for the National Paediatric Cochlear Implant Society. Lorraine and Brendan are delighted to announce that their event raised an amazing €16,000.
“We are absolutely delighted, people were so generous and we are so thankful for that,” commented Brendan. Lorraine added, “This money will go towards providing rehabilitation tools for a specialised speech and language unit in Temple Street Hospital. We were very proud to present such a fantastic sum to the hospital last week, thanks so much to everyone who contributed.”
