Little Theatre’s Two reaches all-Ireland final

Athlone Little Theatre have scored a major triumph in their 75th anniversary year, as Ollie Hegarty’s production of Two, by Jim Cartwright, has just reached the all-Ireland One Act Drama finals. The finals will take place in Ennis in early December, and Two is being hotly tipped for further major awards.

This fantastic production has just carried away the top awards at One Act Festivals in Ballymahon, Cavan, and Prosperous. In the process, Two has garnered more than enough points to book its place in the national finals. There have been best actor and actress awards galore for the show’s two stars, John McGlynn and Anne Hoey.

Two tells the story of a night in the life of a husband and wife team who run a neighbourhood pub in the north of England. In the course of an utterly absorbing play, John and Anne play a staggering 14 different parts between them, as the pub plays host to literally every form of human life.

The show has received glowing comments from adjudicators for its realism, the stellar quality of its acting and the seamlessness of the production. Two is regarded as a serious prospect to bring an all-Ireland title back to Athlone.

The cast performs at one final festival in Dunmore, Co Galway, this coming weekend, before making their way to Ennis for the all-Ireland final.

Everyone at Athlone Little Theatre is justly proud of Ollie, John, Anne, Bernadette Naughton and all the members of the production team.
