Public meeting held over Roscommon hospital future

A public meeting was held in Roscommon yesterday [Thursday] evening in an attempt to clarify what health services are available at Roscommon Hospital and what proposals there are for the hospital’s future.

The meeting was called by the Roscommon Hospital Action Committee, in order to obtain clarification from Minister for Health Dr James Reilly, elected representatives, and the HSE exactly what health services are available and what proposals are in place to expand the range of services available.

The Minister, local TDs and Senators, as well as regional director of operations with the HSE, John Hennessy, were all invited to attend the meeting.

Speaking in advance of the meeting, chairperson of the Roscommon Hospital Action Committee, John McDermott said there is “a lot of confusion about what services are available”.

“We want to clarify what services are available and for whom. Secondly, we want to know what is proposed, and the timeline. We are also looking to identify our future actions - fighting to restore A&E is still our main priority,” said Mr McDermott.

“A number of services are proposed, and while they are welcome they will not compensate for the loss of A&E.”
