Glasson Hotel earns its eco credentials

Glasson Country House Hotel & Golf Club are delighted to announce that they have been awarded an Eco-Label from greenhospitality.ie The four-star lakeview hotel achieved the Eco-Label by introducing an Environmental Action Plan focusing on energy, waste, and water management. The project was run in conjunction with Westmeath Community Development and sponsored by the Environmental Protection Agency.

Proprietor of Glasson Hotel, Tom Reid, participated in the project, along with other tourism entrepreneurs in the region, in an effort to facilitate a network of ecotourism businesses to develop and market themselves and Westmeath as an ecotourism destination.

“The main emphasis is on ecological, social, and economic sustainability,” says Tom. “Glasson is committed to sustainable tourism, in particular reducing our carbon footprint by cutting down on the use of paper, increasing our recycling rates, conserving water, and putting in place procedures to ensure that energy is used as efficiently as possible at the hotel.”

Tom wants to say a special thanks to Westmeath Community Development who ran the Eco Tourism Training Project, which was funded under the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013. He would also like to thank all the staff of Glasson Hotel who worked very hard in order to achieve the prestigious award.
