It was good news all round for local business Hanna’s Secret recently, as the very week the bakery moved into its new premises and created four jobs, it was also nominated for a prestigious national award.
Hanna’s Secret has been shortlisted for an award in the health category of the Blas na hÉireann Irish Food Awards for its dairy alternative Hanna’s Secret Totally Moist Carrot Cake.
Having recently opened a new manufacturing bakery and taken on four new staff in Mullingar, it has been a busy but rewarding time for owner Niamh Heneghan.
“Last week Hanna’s Secret officially moved into its new premises and we received the most beautiful gift a new business could. We were shortlisted for the Blas na hEireann awards due to be announced on October 1 in Dingle. It is a great opportunity to meet others in the industry and to showcase our products.
“Despite the many hiccups of last week, ovens not working, wrong orders from suppliers, 16-hour days, etc, I look around and know that it is possible to achieve your dream; it may take time, but it’s worth it,” she said.
Niamh prides herself on keeping everything artisan and handmixed in her new manufacturing premises in Mullingar.
“We plan to open a gluten-free bakery by sealing off half of the bakery. We have a stunning recipe that tastes better than regular bread; anyone who has tried it doesn’t know it’s gluten-free,” she explains.
“In a short space of time, Hanna’s Secret wheat-free bread and cakes are now in five counties and we are so grateful that the products are being received with great gusto. Thanks in no small way to the Westmeath Enterprise Board, and an employment grant for four staff, we are definitely looking onward and upward, and looking for more people to join us in our manufacturing bakery, especially if you have enthusiasm, a positive outlook and a passion for good food.”
Hanna’s Secret products are all wheat-free and additive-free, and are designed to nourish, sustain, and to taste exquisite.
Due to popular demand, Hanna’s Secret is expanding into Moate and Athlone, and products are now available in Westmeath, Longford, Roscommon, Meath, and Leitrim.
