Singers Circle mark Heritage Week in 1921 mode

South Roscommon Singers Circle is looking forward to joining up with Roscommon Heritage Group for a very special event celebrating National Heritage Week and marking the 90th anniversary of the Burning of Knockcroghery.

The event takes place this Friday evening August 26. Starting at the Community Centre (old school ) at 7.30pm there will be a history and walking tour of the village. This will be followed by a music and singing session in Murray’s Lounge featuring songs and music of 1921 and older songs that were still popular in that period – indeed, many of which are still being sung today. Anyone with a song or a tune, a poem or a story that fits the bill is more than welcome to contribute or those who just want to listen are also welcome to come along. Period dress of the time is advised, but not essential. However, people are asked to make a special effort to mark the occasion in the spirit in which it is intended.

Admission is free and the singing is expected to start around 9.30pm. Those taking part in the walk should be mindful of weather conditions on the day.
