Rugby supremo to bring motivational mojo to Mullingar

Leinster rugby’s inspirational, European Cup-winning coach Joe Schmidt is to return to Mullingar on Saturday August 27 for a coach-and-quiz session.

The affable Kiwi, who was player-coach in Mullingar whilst a PE teacher in Wilson’s Hospital in the early 90s, will host a motivational Q and A session in the clubhouse from 7pm.

This unique forum will be open to all, not just rugby club members, according to club spokesman Donal Coade, and should be of great interest to all from sport and commerce, or to anybody with a question for the man who guided O’Driscoll and co to a second Heineken Cup in just three seasons.

Generous Joe, who was responsible for the biggest crowds ever seen at the Cullion grounds when he brought the entire Leinster panel to Mullingar for a pre-season training session last season, will also offer his talents to the youth of the club, as he is to take four underage teams out for an intensive coaching session prior to the seminar in the clubhouse. The u13 and 14 teams will get an hour between 4pm and 5pm, with the u15s and 17s being put through their paces in the subsequent 60 minutes.

Between the training and the question-and-answer session, Mullingar RFC will present its most famous former member with an honorary life membership.

Due to space restrictions, only 200 tickets are available, and over half of these are gone already.

Tickets are available for €20 from president Robbie Gunne on (085 ) 7825963 or from Donal Coade on (086 ) 2679007.
