C-Link knife robber sought

Gardaí in Mullingar have appealed for witnesses to an armed robbery on the C-Link road yesterday morning (August 11 ) in which a shop manager was assaulted and hospitalised.

Though the injuries of the 32-year-old shopkeeper from the Spar in Raithín/ Ardleigh were described as “not life threatening”, gardaí are very anxious to trace the movements of the robber who, after the assault, took a small sum of money and fled on foot around 5.30am.

The lone male thief is described as tall, and wearing navy tracksuit bottoms, a bright grey Adidas hoody, white Adidas runners with three black stripes, and a black balaclava.

“We’re appealing to anyone who was on their way to work who saw anybody acting suspiciously in Ardleigh or on the C-Link road on Thursday morning,” said the garda spokesman.

In relation to the shotgun incident at Valley Cottages in the early hours of Saturday morning, Gardaí are still awaiting a forensic report, and “investigations are ongoing”. Though no one was injured in the intimidatory assault on the front door of one of the cottages, no firearm has yet been recovered. “We’d appeal for anybody with any information to come forward, and all responses will be dealt with in the strictest confidence,” said the garda spokesman.

Information on either incident can be reported to Mullingar Garda Station on (044 ) 9384000.
