Woman tells of fear of seeing assailant

A woman who had her face slashed with glass in Mullingar says she is afraid to see her assailant in town.

Alison Griffiths told Mullingar District Court that she had to get stitches and take time off work following the assault by Sharon McCarthy, 15 Grange Meadows on September 9 last year.

The assault, which took place at the Druid’s Chair, Pearse Street, Mullingar arose because of allegations that a friend of Ms Griffiths’ had crashed McCarthy’s brother’s car.

Ms Griffiths didn’t know the 25-year-old at the time, but knew of her, she told the court and is now “afraid to see her in town”.

She said McCarthy’s family had threatened her friends because she was proceeding with the case, despite McCarthy having children.

An up to date probation report was ordered for October 6.
