Council to honour ironman Gerry

Westmeath County Council is to honour its latest sporting hero Gerry Duffy with an official reception in the coming weeks.

The address of recognition to the Deca Ironman champion will take place in Market House, Mullingar on Tuesday August 9.

Gerry became the toast of Mullingar earlier this year when he saw off competition from 19 other athletes to win the Deca Ironman UK race, completing 10 Ironman distance triathlons in 10 days and raising thousands of euros for Irish Autism Action.

The Mullingar native completed a total of 24 miles of swimming, 1,120 miles of cycling, and 262 miles of running during the course of the race, which took place over 10 days from June 3-12.

Gerry first came to the public’s attention the previous summer when he completed 32 marathons in 32 days.
