Some €61,000 has been allocated for improvement works at Athlone train station, Deputy Nicky McFadden has announced.
“The €61,000 will go towards work on Iarnrod Eireann signage, directional signage, external and internal painting schemes and platform furniture consisting of seats, bins, and shelters,” she said.
“As part of the Jobs Initiative €1 million was allocated to provide for the upgrade of train stations in order to make them more attractive and comfortable for commuters and tourists. The assessment on the allocation was carried out by the National Transport Authority,” Deputy McFadden said.
“The upgrade of Athlone train station will improve services and facilities for train users and will also provide employment in the town.”
