Athlone Regional Sports Centre launched a special membership package this week, offering free child places when a parent joins.
The new initiative is aimed to promote activity and positive interaction between children and families. Children from three months to 17 years go free when an adult member joins for a minimum of six months. The offer will run until December 31. The sports centre has created a fun-filled timetable of free activities for child members which includes a set of free swimming classes, Riverdance classes, teddy bears picnic, family gym times, body percussion, and much more.
“We want to increase children participation at the sports centre and engage them in non-competitive activities. Here they can meet new friends and learn new skills. It also gives adults a chance to exercise when otherwise they might not have time,” explained Liam Cunningham, general manager of Athlone Regional Sports Centre.
Speaking after the launch Athlone town mayor Alan Shaw said, “This is a fantastic programme, well done to the board. Athlone Town Council is delighted to be associated with this programme.
“It really complements the busy family life, and it’s very cost effective. Running the offer until December 31 is a decent time frame to test this out.”
Local TD Nicky Mc Fadden was also at the launch, and she complimented Liam and the staff of the sports centre. “ I think the motto, ‘One life, live it well’ is really inspirational, it’s a brilliant motto to have. It allows families to have free interactive time free of charge. The activities on offer are brilliant, this is a great idea.”
Athlone Regional Sports Centre, Ballymahon Road offers a range of supervised activities arranged for free while parents work out. Activities are on offer seven days a week and adult membership starts from under €40 a month.
