Celebrity gardener Dermot O’Neill performed the officially opening of the sensory garden at the new LARCC Centre at Multyfarnham recently.
The poor weather on the day did not stop huge crowds from turning out to meet the very popular gardener.
Dermot spoke of the vital need for the essential cancer support services being delivered at LARCC. He congratulated LARCC on how well its new centre was taking shape - LARCC hopes to move in to its new centre at Multyfarnham in the next couple of months. Dermot spent a lot of time meeting the many who turned up to see him and answered their gardening questions giving very generously of his time.
He praised highly the skills of John Smyth and the 19 strong team of local horticulture students who designed and built the fabulous sensory garden. He spoke of how it would be a haven for the clients and people of LARCC to enjoy and take time out in.
The FÁS horticulture students who built the garden are on an LTI programme, and in association with Westmeath Community Development, under the expert guidance of John Smyth, gardener at Belvedere House & Gardens, started work on this garden just a short three weeks before its opening. Gardener John Smyth, a very experienced and accomplished gardener in his own right, designed the garden and using all his contacts in the horticulture, landscaping, and building trade got almost every aspect of the garden sponsored. In these very difficult economic times for all businesses the response that John and LARCC received from nurseries and garden suppliers from all over the country has been phenomenal.
