Westmeath hurlers capable of causing upset against Antrim

With the hurlers and footballers both drawn away to Antrim it is the hurlers who must first make the long journey north. The involvement of a number of dual players ruled out the possibility of a double header and their game throws in at 3pm on Saturday.

Brian Hanley’s men will enter the game full of confidence following their much lauded performance against Galway in Cusack Park. Last year’s beaten all-Ireland quarter finalists will be expected to claim the spoils on home soil but Westmeath will travel in the knowledge that they have a decent record against The Glensmen.

Antrim got the better of Laois in the opening round before giving a decent account of themselves against Wexford.

Westmeath are expected to be at full strength for the clash. A win would set up a repeat clash with Carlow. With our minor hurlers in action in the Leinster semi-final next weekend there is no reason why our seniors can’t play their part in making it a great week for hurling in the county.
