A woman with 133 previous convictions, 83 of which are for theft, has added a further four convictions to her list at Mullingar District Court recently.
Margaret McDonagh, Cappagh Campsite, Finglas, who is in custody, was familiar to Judge Seamus Hughes who remembered that he had to hold a special court for her in Westport in the past.
The 30-year-old admitted stealing from four shops in Mullingar on October 7 last year, starting at 6pm.
She first took €17.99 food from Dunnes Stores, Harbour Place and left without paying and then went on to Claire’s Accessories, where she took a make-up set worth €11.95.
From there she took chocolate and toiletries worth €8 from Euro2 and then at Cards’n’Things took four bottles worth €4.90.
Judge Hughes described her previous convictions as “too numerous to count” and was dubious of solicitor Louis Kiernan’s comment that his client had cooperated with gardai.
“They’re never cooperative when they’re not caught,” he said. “They never come knocking on the door of the Garda station.”
He imposed a two month concurrent sentence on each of the four theft charges which will run concurrent to the six month sentence she got in Waterford a week ago.
