An Athlone Institute of Technology student, who works as an area manager in McDonald’s Mullingar, will pursue her part-time course in IT with the support of the McDonald’s Employee Scholarship Award.
Nijole Panavaite was presented with the McDonald’s Scholarship this week where she received a bursary of €1,500. The National Employee Scholarship Programme recognises the accomplishments of outstanding students as employees of McDonald's.
Nijole is studying marketing, advertising, and public relations and hopes to apply for the second year of the studies to achieve the higher diploma. Nijole is looking forward to the academic year ahead commenting that the financial support has come at a great time.
“This scholarship has given me a great boost and it will really assist me financially in the coming year. It will definitely go to good use as I am planning to use it for tuition fees and other college expenses and maybe just a little treat for myself. Working in McDonald’s has allowed me to pursue this course, the flexibility is fantastic,” says Nijole.
Nijole was presented with the award by Michele Ryan, McDonald’s director of HR and training and Brian Mooney of the Institute of Guidance Counsellors.
According to Ms Ryan, “We have many employees who work at McDonalds while studying. This awards scheme, which was launched in 2001, encourages and rewards our crew members to further their education. It is one of many training and educational initiatives that McDonald’s has developed to enhance the skills and personal development of the 3,500 committed crew members working around Ireland.”
