Midlands Simon Community has launched a new campaign which hopes to highlight the importance of making a will, and how remembering a charity in your will can make a significant difference to the lives of others.
Midlands Simon is also urging anyone who is considering making or updating a will to seek professional advice from their local solicitor before doing so. For many people, the thought of making a will is a deeply unpleasant one, and something that tends to be put on the long finger for as long as possible.
There is also a perception that it is a very complicated and expensive process; this is simply not the case and a number of local solicitors who are supporting the Midlands Simon campaign are offering to guide people through the process free of charge, for a limited time.
Speaking at the launch Linda Reidy, vice-chairperson, Midlands Simon, said, “A legacy gift enables charities to continue to work with vulnerable people and support those who need help into the future. It is a truly wonderful gift to leave behind, knowing people will benefit from your bequest. We ask that when people are making a will, and after family and friends are taken care of, people consider giving to a charity.”
John O’Carroll, solicitor with Walker, O’Carroll & Hogan Solicitors, commented, “In the current climate where there is huge financial pressure on the resources of charities and non-profit organisations, people should consider, after properly providing for family and dependent relatives in their wills, making bequests to charities and local organisations for the betterment of our society”.
Midlands Simon helps people to move out of homelessness by providing emergency accommodation, supporting people with longer term needs, assisting people to move into their new home, and providing a range of supports to help people maintain their new home and live independently.They also help people to overcome the many other issues faced by those who are homeless such as health and welfare needs, poverty, loneliness, and isolation.
