Dancing in Mullingar will have to be a little more music influenced this weekend after gardai made two separate seizures of ecstasy in the Newtown Lawns area last Thursday October 23.
Two arrests were made in relation to the €650 and €700 confiscations and files are being prepared for the DPP.
Details on the arrested cannot be released until charges are proffered.
Elsewhere in Mullingar, Bank Holiday excesses were limited to one man arrested on Dominick Street after a domestic argument resulted in the assault of three others on Sunday night (October 26 ).
It is believed the accused was having an argument on the street with his girlfriend when two nearby doormen and a passerby decided to intervene and got assaulted for their troubles.
The perpetrator will face assault and public order charges in the near future, according to the Gardai.
Monday’s misbehaviours were limited to two men and two women arrested on Pearse Street last Monday afternoon (October 27 ) after being apprehended with €370 worth of clothes taken from a nearby shop.
A lock-up container was broken into at the new roundabout on the Lynn Road on the night of October 23-24 and €3,500 worth of tools was stolen.
Amongst the tools taken were a trench whacker, two skill saws, a con saw, a Kango hammer, a cement mixer, a generator, a drill and a laser level.
As the evenings begin to close in, gardai are reminding citizens to be a little more careful with their vehicles after a 2007 Kia Sorrento was stolen in Monilea from outside the owner’s house at around 7.40pm last Saturday evening (October 25 ) with the keys left in the ignition.
Outside of the capital thieves stole from two cars on consecutive nights in and around Delvin last week.
On the night of October 21-22, a generator worth €200 was taken from a vehicle in Martinstown after the car door was jemmied open.
The following night, a handbag was snatched from a jeep between 1am and 3am in Castletown, Delvin.
Gardai cannot say if the offences are connected but are keeping an open mind.
Finally, the Gardai would like to inform the people of Mullingar they will be strictly enforcing the Criminal Justice Act in relation to fireworks tonight and over the weekend.
People can be prosecuted for being in possession of, igniting, throwing or supplying fireworks and can be fined up to €2,500 if found guilty.
