Gardai in Mullingar are seeking the assistance of the public in the recovery of some stolen pharmaceuticals that could stop a person’s breathing in minutes if taken incorrectly.
On the evening of Monday last (October 27 ), some time between 6pm and 9pm, a pharmacy on Oliver Plunkett Street was broken into and a quantity of prescription drugs was stolen.
Among these were hydromorphine and methadone in injection and tablet form. The tablets are under the brand name of Sevradol.
Gardai have been informed that both of these drugs are highly potent and if someone who wasn’t used to taking such drugs took them, they would have difficulty breathing within minutes.
Gardai are appealing for anybody with information on, or access to, these pharmaceuticals either to contact the Garda station or, if they prefer, to hand them in to their doctor.
Gardai are also stressing that if anyone has taken these drugs, it is imperative that they get to hospital immediately.
The break-in is being investigated by gardai from the detective branch in Mullingar, and Scenes of Crime officers (forensic staff ) have attended.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Mullingar Garda station on (044 ) 9384000 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
