Dublin trounce minor footballers

Dublin 4-15 Westmeath 0-08

Westmeath’s minor footballers were no match for a hugely impressive Dublin side in the opening round of the provincial campaign. There are very few positives that can be taken from a beating like this and again it highlights the need for a root and branch look at underage football in the county.

Westmeath were without the services of one of their better players Robbie Henshaw who was on international rugby duty though one player would not have altered the outcome here.

The only bit of good news is that they have a reasonably good draw in the loser’s section. They are away to Longford on April 27 with the winners enjoying home advantage against Wicklow on May 3.
