The Central Statistics Office (CSO ) says thank you to the people of Westmeath who participated in the Census last Sunday April 10.
According to Deirdre Cullen, senior statistician at the CSO, “We are very grateful for the support of everyone in Westmeath. Your participation is vital in making Census 2011 a success.
“The reason why we need everyone to be counted is because the information gathered through the Census influences important policy decisions, like where new schools and new hospitals are needed. The first detailed results will be available within a year of census day for every town and district in Ireland, and will be used by a wide range of people and organisations from local community groups and small start-up businesses right up to local and central government. If the Census does not count everyone then important decisions will be made without a true understanding of what Ireland needs.
“Your enumerator will be knocking on your door in the coming three to four weeks to collect your Census form. Please keep your completed form in a safe place until your enumerator calls. All Census enumerators will be wearing clearly marked reflective jackets and will be carrying ID.”
