Join the Aware charity cycle

The fourth annual Aware Connemara Cycle is looking for people to participate and support the fun charity event to raise much needed funds for the charity, Aware, in the West of Ireland.

Aware is a national voluntary organisation giving support to individuals and families affected by depression by providing a broad range of appropriate support services.

The looped cycle event raised funds of over €15,000 in 2010 and over €50,000 in the last three years, all of which was donated to Aware for projects in the West of Ireland. This year’s event, which is gaining in popularity attracting over 100 cyclists last year, will take place in Connemara on Saturday, April 16, commencing from Maam Cross at 11am. Cyclists of all abilities are invited to participate in this very worthwhile charitable event and there are 30-mile and 50-mile looped cycles to choose from.

The funds raised from this event have allowed Aware to provide its secondary schools talks, ‘Beat the Blues’, in the West of Ireland, free of charge.

Aware’s Beat the Blues programme aims to educate young people about depression and mood disorder, and the treatments available. It is primarily targeted at transition year and senior students to nurture a more positive attitude to dealing with the illness and help them to identify sources of support in their own life. The €50,000 raised to date will also help maintain Aware’s support groups in the West of Ireland. Aware has also recently introduced online support groups.
