Westmeath entertain Wexford in Cusack Park

Westmeath v Wexford (Cusack Park, Sunday 2.30pm)

Pat Flanagan will be hoping his side can build on their win over Tipperary when they take to the field against Wexford on Sunday. Home advantage is an important asset in the league and this is a game he will have targeted to win.

With three points to show from the opening three games a win he is vital. Wexford began their campaign brightly with impressive wins over Waterford and Offaly before going down to high flying Louth.

Westmeath look certain to be without the services of the injured Dessie Dolan which won’t help their cause. U21 star Conor Lynam will likely be the man to replace him. On the plus side John Heslin will be free to play following his suspension and a big game will be needed from him around the middle of the field.

The likes of Redmond Barry, Ciaran Lyng, and Ben Brosnan will take plenty of watching. Lyng and Brosnan accounted for all but one of their 11 points against Louth.

While the overall performance in Semple Stadium was nothing to get too excited about, the fact that The Lake County managed to dig out a win is bound to improve confidence in the camp.

Sunday’s game is very difficult to call but home advantage will hopefully swing things in our favour and I expect Westmeath to be further up the league table come Sunday evening.
