Operation Transformation brings some family fun to Athlone

RTÉ’s Operation Transformation TVseries is teaming up again with the Irish Sports Council to bring you a great family sports day this Saturday February 5. The event will take place in AIT, where experts in a range of sports will be on hand to guide you through the basics of a wide variety of sporting activities. All five leaders from the programme and fitness expert Karl Henry and medical doctor Dr Eva Orsmonde will be there drumming up support for the family day of fun.

The Irish Sports Council will implement this initiative across the country this spring but are starting in Westmeath as the Irish Sports Monitor 2008 showed that people in the Midlands region (Laois, Longford, Offaly, and Westmeath ) are less likely to play sport, particularly individual sport. Furthermore, Westmeath had the lowest likelihood of adults playing sport in the country.

People are required to register for some of the sports as there will be a limited number of places available for these sports during the day. The aim is to help people embrace exercise and find an activity they love. The day begins with registration at 11am, every activity on Saturday is free and they look forward to welcoming you.

Sporting activities on offer include: highland game, table tennis, archery, badminton, spike ball, tag rugby, dance, fitness training, cycling, wall climb, and a treasure hunt.
