With January being officially Ireland’s most depressing month, what better way to remedy the winter blues than the prospect of a duvet day for a great cause. To help support the work of Ireland’s almost 275,000 family carers, broadcasters and patrons of The Carers Association, Marty Whelan and Mary Kennedy, have teamed up to launch Ireland’s first Win a Day Off Work campaign. The campaign offers Westmeath employees the chance to win a duvet day while raising vital funds for family carers.
“Marty and I are always happy to support campaigns that raise much needed funds for family carers. The Win a Day Off Work campaign is a really fun and novel idea at a pretty bleak and cold time of year,” says Mary Kennedy.
“I would love to broadcast from under the duvet,” says Marty Whelan, whose daily Marty in the Morning show on Lyric FM gets him up at 5am.
The Carers Association has teamed up with RecruitIreland.com to launch this new campaign to help support its work providing vital services and campaigning for better rights for family carers.
“With the most depressing day of the year last Monday and the current cold weather and post-Christmas blues, what better way for Westmeath companies to boost workplace morale and support the work of family carers than with the chance to win a duvet day at home,” says Emma Murphy of The Carers Association.
Taking part is easy. Employers donate a day off work. A nominated person within each participating company sells raffle tickets to employees from which the lucky winner will be chosen. All information and materials required can be found at www.winadayoffwork.ie
Funds raised will go towards helping lighten the load of Ireland’s almost 275,000 family carers, who provide often round-the-clock care in the home for older people, those terminally ill, people with disabilities and children with special needs. The Carers Association supports family carers by providing free in-home respite care to give family carers a break, training, support groups, a freefone National Care Line, and campaigns for recognition and better rights and entitlements for carers.
