Have you got what it takes to be Westmeath’s next big thing?

Ever dreamed of becoming the next Susan Boyle, Kings of Leon, or even David Copperfield? If so, the Vintners’ Federation of Ireland (VFI ) in association with Smithwick’s, might have the answer for you with the VFI Stars of our Bars pub talent competition.

This January, thousands of Westmeath hopefuls will have the chance to showcase their talents in the Stars of our Bars pub talent competition, which takes place in pubs and bars across the county.

Following from the success of last year’s competition, Stars of our Bars will see up to 5,000 acts from all walks of life take part to be in with a chance to win from the cash prize fund of €50,000 and to be crowned Smithwick’s Stars of our Bars Champion 2011.

All acts are welcome so feel free to bring your spoons, don your magician’s cape, or just belt out a ballad of your choice. Heats will commence in late January and successful contestants will move on to the county finals in March before going head to head with the best in their county in April.

The all Ireland final will take place in May where a panel of judges, including Newstalk and former Something Happens frontman Tom Dunne will select the overall national winner.

Entry to the competition is free and aspiring performers can enter through their nearest participating pub. For more information and a list of participating pubs visit www.vfi.ie

Gerry Mellett, president of the VFI, said: “We are thrilled to be bringing Stars of our Bars back to Irish pubs again this year. We hope to see people of all ages entering with traditional or unique talents, and we are encouraging their supporters to head down to the local pubs to cheer them on.

The pub is at the heart of the community and what better than a talent competition to bring a bit of excitement to communities nationwide.”
