A man who broke the nose of a car driver was so stunned by his actions that he rang gardaí himself, Mullingar District Court has heard.
Bernard Oates of Marian Avenue, Longford was in Mullingar at 2.40am on July 11 last year when he stood in front of a car in the Market Square area.
Words were exchanged and Oates reached in and boxed the driver in the face, giving him a broken nose and black eye. He has no previous convictions and Mr Redmond O’Regan said he was “stunned the moment he did it”.
He reported himself to gardaí and the action was completely out of character for him to the extent that he is mortified.
A payment of €1,000 for the victim was presented to the court and the case was struck out.
