Parking at Mullingar hospital is worth just under €1,000 a day to the HSE, it was revealed this week.
Cllr Mick Dollard had requested the figure for parking receipts at the Midland Regional Hospital (MRH ), Mullingar at the most recent meeting of the mid-Leinster health forum, and was informed that for the 12 months of 2009, the Health Service Executive was in receipt of €359,125, or €984 per day for this parking facility.
In the area of out-patient care, MRH has provided for 51,000 people between January and August this year. Of these 11,000 were new patients, and the balance were returning visits. Coincidentally, though not correspondingly, 40,000 of these out-patient attendees saw a consultant, while the remaining 11,000 attended nurse-led clinics.
Another positive figure revealed to the local councillors attending this meeting, concerned the number of babies born at MRH in 2009.
It transpires a child is born every three hours in Mullingar, according to figures released by Joe Martin, manager of the Dublin Mid-Leinster HSE region. A total of 2,934 babies were delivered in 2009.
Also noted at the meeting was the official opening of the primary care centre on the Main Street in Kinnegad on September 21, and listed its range of services including: GP and community nursing; physio, occupational and speech therapies; nutrition and dietetic services, home help, community welfare, adiction counselling and psychology services. Within the next year, the primary care team here will also include a social worker.
