Junior Cert celebrations lead to kicked-in door

A teenager who broke the door of an older woman’s house following a night of drinking replied “Tell the woman I’m sorry” when charged with criminal damage.

Garda Eugene Boland told Tullamore District Court that was the reply made by the 19-year-old following the incident on September 15 at Main Street, Kilbeggan.

He had been out drinking with friends, the garda explained, when the woman who is almost 60 was woken when her front door was knocked in.

Substantial damage was caused by the kicking and banging and the woman, who lives alone, was quite disturbed, the garda said.

Mr David Nohilly said his client, who has no previous convictions, had overdone it on the night he had been celebrating Junior Certificate results with friends.

He was extremely sorry for his behaviour which happened on the spur of the moment.

He was given four weeks to come up with compensation before his case will be finalised.
