Bunbrosna look set to impose further heartbreak on neighbours Ballynacargy

Intermediate Football Final (Sun 3.30pm, Cusack Park)

The Westmeath intermediate football final is down for decision this Sunday and what a cracker it promises to be. Two neighbouring clubs battling it out, not just for the coveted silverware, but more importantly for the right to play senior football next year.

Ballynacargy will be hoping it is a case of third time lucky having tasted defeat at the final hurdle for the past two seasons at the hands of Maryland and Tubberclair. Yet they know they will get nothing easy against their neighbours from Bunbrosna.

For their part Bunbrosna will be looking for a quick return to senior ranks having been relegated last year. Bun will be most people’s favourites going into the game. Given their form for most of this season that is entirely understandable.

The sides met in the opening round of the championship and Bunbrosna had four or five points to spare on that occasion. Yet that was back in April and finals usually take on a life of their own.

Bal will not want to taste the bitter pill of defeat for the third year running and are sure to put up a huge fight. Yet Bun would appear to have a more balanced team. They had far too much firepower for Caulry in their semi-final and a repeat performance should be enough to see them gain promotion on Sunday evening.
