To celebrate today’s Culture Night, a group of 15 local artists will host “an impromptu, collaborative exhibition” in The Studio at No 1, Mount Street Gardens, Mullingar today, September 24. The exhibition will be open from noon until 10pm.
The Studio is to become the professional home of the group of local artists who recently formed the Free Art Society.net and is situated close to the resources of the Arts Centre and county library.
“There will be an impromptu, collaborative exhibition in The Studio in the spirit of the Free Art Society.net with work from over 15 artists, in many different media,” said spokesperson Ani Morton.
From around 7pm, to celebrate culture night in the spirit of Free Art Society.net and The Studio, there will be live painting, performed and worked by three members of the Free Art Society.net - Siobhan O'Leary, Ani Morton, and Corina Thornton - with music from Gary Dunne and special guests.
“This will be a new style of rock ’n’ roll art, empowering all, to observe and feel a closer relationship with the artistic processes,” suggested Ms Morton.
“The vision evolves this space into a platform where artists can develop their works, skills base and expand their philosophies through the integration of the full spectrum of the arts within a collaborative as well as an individual studio setting.”
This is the second time this collective has got together this summer, as the group did a two-hour live painting for Le Chéile Arts Festival on the August bank holiday. “The Free Arts Society is committed to developing their current space in The Studio, Mount Street Gardens into a hub of creativity for member and non-member artists for the realisation of its mission statement, and for the growing benefit of all involved artists and the greater public,” she added.
