First Midlands seminar for LGBT Diversity to be held in Athlone

The first ever Midlands seminar for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT ) Community will take place in Athlone, Co Westmeath on Thursday September 30.

This exciting event titled Building Foundations for Growth is happening in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel from 9.30am to 4.30pm and it is expected that people will travel from across the region to attend.

The seminar is being organised by LGBT Diversity, a new programme for Ireland that aims to develop the capacity of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender sector. Mary O’Rourke TD will be in attendance to launch the programme in the Midlands region.

David Carroll from Belong To LGBT Youth Services, Annie Rozario from Gort Family Resource Centre, and Helen Beatty from Community Foundation for Ireland will all speak on the day. They will highlight the benefits and challenges of working collaboratively and provide information on upcoming supports available.

It is hoped the seminar will provide an opportunity for mainstream agencies and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender organisations to come together, to learn from each others’ experiences, to discuss possible challenges, and to explore opportunities for working together.

LGBT Diversity is inviting groups, individuals, community, and statutory agencies interested in challenging social exclusion and isolation in LGBT communities to come along.

The event is free of charge but places are limited so if people are interested in attending this seminar or finding out more about LGBT Diversity contact Cecily Maher, LGBT Diversity, Midlands Regional Development worker on (086 ) 0272407 or email [email protected].
