A company has been fined €750 for operating an illegal quarry in Westmeath.
Sugarbowl Holdings Ltd, 1 Holles Street, Dublin was prosecuted at Tullamore District Court on Wednesday [September 8] for the offence which was discovered following continuous complaints to the council.
The site at Mountrath, Kilbeggan was inspected on November 19, 2008 and the inspector saw that screening and stockpiling was taking place.
There was no planning permission for the site which is owned by Sugarbowl Holdings Ltd.
The machinery was removed immediately, the court heard though the site has yet to be restored.
Judge Gerard Haughton fined the company €750 and ordered them to pay the council’s costs of €3,764.16.
