New parking bylaws for Kinnegad are to be put in place for a trial period of 12 months, after councillors approved a report on the draft bylaws this week.
A total of seven submissions received from members of the public were accommodated in the set of bylaws, which include a two-hour parking limit during business hours, provisions for disabled parking, permits for residents, and signage for the new parking arrangements.
An outline of the penalties for breach of the new parking regulations is also to be included in the final set of bylaws, at the request of local Gardai.
The draft bylaws were proposed by Cllr Denis Leonard, who said they would they would “greatly enhance Kinnegad’s main street”.
“I am happy residents’ permits will be guaranteed, and that traders can allow their customers to park. It is important signage goes up and people are made aware of the changes.
“The Guards are hopeful that on-the-spot prosecutions will elminate any problems, people will have the deterrent of fines,” he added.
Cllr Leonard also welcomed the provision of six disabled parking spaces, which will be located at Serenity House, Bank of Ireland, the church, Monica Ennis’ Hairdressers, Scanlon’s, and near Gildea’s.
The draft bylaws were seconded by Cllr Aidan Davitt, who said the new regulations were “what the traders and business people want”.
