Mullingar has been named as one of several locations across the counrty which is to benefit from Eircom’s new Ethernet services.
Regions that can now take advantage of speeds of up to 1 Gbps in areas including Mullingar, Kilkenny, Enniscorthy, and dozens of other towns across the country. Eircom plans to increase the number of exchanges as the roll-out progresses into next year.
The development is expected to be of considerable benefit for Irish businesses outside metropolitan areas. According to Eircom, this will enable mobile broadband, video conferencing, high-quality voice over IP, next generation cloud computing, and bandwidth-intensive imaging applications.
Managing director of Eircom Wholesale, John McKeon, said: “NGN Ethernet delivers the data product our wholesale customers have been asking for, not just in terms of speed and capacity, but also in terms of reach and cost.
“We can directly serve over 500 exchanges across metropolitan, suburban, and rural Ireland from today,” he added.
