Mullingar to help Pakistani flood victims

A local businessman is to host a coffee morning at his restaurant to help raise money for the victims of the Pakistani flood disaster.

Syed Jaffry will host the fundraiser at his Kebab Xpress on Bishopgate Street, Mullingar and has vowed to give “all the money, not just the profit” on the sales of coffee next Saturday August 28.

“And it’s not just the morning, we will do the coffee all day,” said Mr Jaffry.

The worst flooding in Pakistan’s history has affected almost the whole of the 1,200km course of the Indus river, from the Himalaya to the Bay of Bengal. Over 1,500 people have died already, approximately 14 million people have been affected and an area twice the size of the island of Ireland is below water.

The money raised by Mr Jaffry will go to the Imamia Medics International (IMI ), which he says “is doing a superb job on the ground in Pakistan”. The IMI is running similar coffee mornings at University College Hospital and Bon Secours in Galway.

Mr Jaffry is originally from Pakistan but has been in Europe for the last 10 years.
