After months of waiting, students in Mullingar finally got to see their hard work pay off last Wednesday, August 18, as they collected their Leaving Cert. Some 57,000 students received their results this week.

Overall, principals across the town were happy with the class of 2010, with St Mary’s CBS reporting an average of 100 points improvement for thir repeat students, while the Loreto College saw very strong results from their Leaving Cert Applied class.

Speaking to the Advertiser a spokesperson for St Mary’s CBS said “We’re delighted with the results. All the workers did very well.”

“Our repeat year was very successful and averaged around a 100 point improvement.”

The Loreto College began handing out results at 9.30am on Wednesday morning but some of recipients, a number still in their debs dresses from the CBS dance the night before, began to gather at the school from shortly after 8am.

Carmel O’Grady of the Loreto College said students were “happy but calm”.

“We were all very pleased with the results this morning, we had a very strong top end,” she said. “The LCA [Leaving Cert Applied] was also very strong. Overall we were very happy.”
