Live Register figures for Mullingar continued to rise in July this year, with 181 more people signing on than in the previous month, according to new figures from the Central Statistics Office.
In July 2010 a total of 5,313 people signed on in Mullingar, compared to 5,132 in the previous month.
When compared with the previous year, the change is even more pronounced. In July 2009, 5,016 people were on the Live Register in Mullingar, some 297 fewer than the same month this year.
The most recent figures also indicate that unemployment has risen above 11,000 in Westmeath for the first time ever.
