Cllr Ruth Illingworth has paid tribute to the work being carried out in Mullingar’s Saplings school, which provides early intervention for children with autism.
The Fine Gael councillor visited the school recently, and was moved to present a motion at Mullingar Town Council in recognition of the dedication and hard work of the staff at Saplings.
“It is a marvellous example of what dedicated staff are able to do. To see the difference that is being made, youngsters who are able to look after themselves, to communicate; the absolute dedication of the staff who work one-to-one with the children, the way each child is treated as an individual whose life can be improved,” said Cllr Illingworth.
“The school is in a small building and could probably do with more space, but they are doing wonderfully. They do get funding, but each year they have to raise approximately €180,000 to keep the school going, and they do.
“Saplings is a very positive story for the town, and a wonderful asset to the town. I found it a very positive and uplifting experience. I would like to pay tribute to all who work in Saplings.”
