A man who got aggressive with his neighbour after his son’s shoes were sliced in pieces, has been fined €300.
Mullingar District Court heard how a neighbour of Andrew Flynn, 16 Millmount, Mullingar, complained to gardaí that their son had been abused and assaulted by the 34-year-old on July 17 this year.
The accused initially denied responsibility but pleaded guilty before the court.
Flynn, who has previous convictions for assault, threatening behaviour, and road traffic offences, was jailed for four years for robbery in 1999.
His solicitor Redmond O’Regan pointed out, however, that he has no conviction since 2007 and has been trying to turn his life around.
He said his client’s son’s runners had been thrown over the garden wall between 16 and 17 Millmount but when he got them back, one appeared to have been slashed with a knife.
That was the reason for his “remonstration” with the neighbour’s son, but he accepted now that this was the wrong approach.
Judge Elizabeth McGrath fined him €300.
