Alleged assault case moves to Circuit Court

Judge Aeneas McCarthy has refused to deal with an assault on a man who will need camouflage make-up to hide his injuries.

He heard an outline of the case which is alleged against Oliver Macken, Allenstown, Kells, Co Meath at the recent sitting of Mullingar District Court and decided it was not a minor offence that could be heard in the District Court.

Inspector Kieran Keyes said the incident which occurred at the Mullingar Park Hotel on September 12 last year saw the victim punched and head-butted.

Flesh was removed from his nose which was allegedly bitten by Macken, who is charged with assault causing harm.

The victim was referred to St James’ Hospital where he received plastic surgery and a report prepared for the court showed that he will need cosmetics to camouflage “the unsightliness of the wound in future”.

The case was adjourned for gardaí to prepare a book of evidence for the Circuit Court.
