Pizzeria turned down but drive-thru granted

Plans to open a suburban pizza parlour in Ardleigh were shelved this week, whilst a drive-through café at Lakepoint was given the go-ahead.

A company called Atlantic Enterprises applied in May to convert a shop on the C-link road into a pizzeria, however, the council’s planning department refused the application primarily because it was “remote from the town centre, and the provision of a take-away on residential zoned land” was contrary to the county development plan.

The decision went on to say that “by reason of noise, cooking odours and the likely proliferation of advertising signs, litter and general disturbance”, the pizzeria would seriously injure the amenities of adjoining residential development.

However, at the other end of the town in Lakepoint on the Delvin Road, the parent company of the site, Daracom, has been given the green light for its plans for a 322 sq m single storey restaurant with a drive-through facility in place of a previously granted 474 sq m two-storey restaurant.

It is not yet known which multinational franchise will occupy the location.

Along with car parking, a service yard and delivery bay, the whole site will have an area of just under 2,000 sq m.
